The 20th annual Sunday in the Park, held on September 16, 2007, was a success. With a beautiful day and a big crowd, the fair cleared (net) over $17,500, all of which will be used to restore and maintain this beautiful park.
Thanks to all of you who donated money, goods and time to make the fair. Including pre-fair help and school groups, over 150
volunteers get involved. Financial donations to support the fair were high, over $4,000 from individuals, almost half the cost of putting on the fair. Many thanks to those of you who sent in checks in August and September.
Several businesses helped financially: The New Alliance Bank paid for the climbing wall, and some realtors (John Cuozzo, Betsy Grauer, Arlene and Cheryl Szczarba, Ray Baldelli, Wojtek Borowski, and other realtors from H. Pearce) bought space in the new program booklet. Also, the Regional Water Authority paid for one of the owl demonstrations. All
were willing to contribute financially without adding a layer of commercialism to the event. Many people said they were pleased to take home the new program booklet, listing the day's events and the contributors.
As he has for 19 years, Bob Fuchs of Archie Moore's Bar and Restaurant donated all the lunch food and drink. Bob, his wife Debi and her mother Katherine spend the day behind the grill cooking for the crowd. Chabaso Bakery donates the bread to go with his ploughman's lunch.

For Teachers
For teachers in the 3rd through 6th grades
Edgerton Park Conservancy offers an introductory
science and environmental tour of the Conservatory of
Tropical Plants in the greenhouses in Edgerton Park.
This includes rainforest plants, desert plants and a
collection of tropical plants that provide food and
products we use. We discuss the structure and needs of
plants with the children. Each child has a hands-on
experience learning to pot a plant and then take it
home to practice horticulture. We provide a rainforest
activities booklet to each teacher as a follow-up to
reinforce what the children have learned in their
visit to the conservatory.
There is no charge for this program.
Please ask for a date from Margaret DeVane at
203-624-8941. Then request a bus immediately. When
confirmed let Margaret know so docents are scheduled
for your day.
Tours last from 10 A.M. to 11:15 or
11:30 depending on your schedule.
Edgerton Greenhouses are located just off Whitney
Avenue at 75 Cliff Street at the Hamden-New Haven
line. |
